What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is indicated for injection for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds). JUVÉDERM® XC is the first and only FDA-approved HA (hyaluronic acid) filler that lasts up to 1 year with 1 treatment. Patients can expect smooth, natural-looking results with the improved comfort they want.

What is the “in-office procedure” like?

The results are immediately noticed by the patient so there are no surprises. Pain is minimal with the topical anesthetic used. Most commonly reported side effects are temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less).

What should I do BEFORE my procedure?

For best results with any dermal filler, you should take a few precautions before being treated.

Avoid using St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, fish oils, aspirin, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. You can also pre-treat to minimize bruising and swelling with Arnica Montana, a homeopathic regimen we recommend in tablet form that can be found at health food stores such as Whole Foods or Sprouts.

What should I expect AFTER my procedure?

Following your procedure, ice should be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling. Avoid touching the treated area for 8 hours following treatment. After, the area can be gently washed with soap and water. However, do not manipulate or massage the area as this can displace the product. Until there is no redness or swelling, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sun lamp or sun bathing). Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
